For the first time in the history of the Religious Music Week of Cuenca, an Academy of Perfection is created in the disciplines of orchestral, choral and vocal practice to train soloists, choir and orchestra for the Festival.

Last 27th, 28th and 29th of January, about two hundred musicians have been called to audition in the different disciplines mentioned above. Those selected will finally occupy the hundred seats that will form the new Academy.

In the words of the Artistic Director of the SMR of Cuenca, Cristóbal Soler, the level of young musicians selected is very high, which will benefit the new musical project. Soler considers this initiative of vital importance, since it shows the excellence of the new generations of musicians, many of them already in possession of a solid technique that enables them to approach a virtuosic interpretation.

Cristóbal Soler, creator of many orchestras of young performers, a work that has run parallel throughout his career as a music director of both symphonic and lyric repertoire, has always shown his constant commitment and special affinity for the bet of young national values. He also argues that this Academy is the intermediate space and necessary link between the last formative stage and the subsequent access to the professional circuit of orchestras and choirs in the main theaters and concert halls of our country.

The Academy will complete its work with the interpretation of the oratorio by Franz Schubert "Lazarus", D.689, for vocal soloists, choir and orchestra. They will perform in the 56th edition of SMR of Cuenca, and in a concert tour in different towns of the Community of Castilla-La Mancha.
